Vamos a agregar los repositorios
$ sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

y pegamos estas líneas al final

Si usas Intrepid
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main

Si usas Hardy
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu hardy main

Si usas Jaunty
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/fta/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/fta/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

Finalmente, si estás probando Karmic
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu karmic main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu karmic main

Guardamos, cerramos y volvemos a la terminal, allí ponemos
$ sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 0C713DA6

y ahora actualizamos
$ sudo aptitude update

e instalamos firefox 3.5
$ sudo aptitude install firefox-3.5


Si tienen problemas con el ingles, descargan el archivo es-xx.xpi, donde xx son las ltras correspondiente a tu pais,lo instalan y listo. Descargar de:

releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.5/linux-i686/xpi/
